Oh, Hey, Ramadan 2024!

The time is now….

Ramadān 2024 is projected to start on Sunday, March 10, 2024 for those going by calculations (or possibly Monday, March 11, 2024 for those going by local naked eye moon sighting!). That means Muslims will be fasting from sun up to sun down, breaking fast together for a communal meal (iftar), and praying special night prayers together (taraweeh). To support you having the best possible Ramadān, Center DC has a few offerings, which you can find and engage with below!

1. Participate!

Take a look at the offering list below to get a sense of what you can expect from Center DC during the month of Ramadān inshaAllah…..

DC Iftar League

Every Ramadān, Center DC hosts the DC Iftar League: a peer-led effort to connect community members with each other so that no one has to break fast - and eat dinner - alone. Each league has a different flavor: meeting at a masjid, going to someone’s home, or meeting up in a park or other public space to break bread together. Groups are open to all - please join the ones you are interested in potentially joining + be sure to RSVP to help your host plan for you each week! Are you ready to Ramadān with Center DC? Join groups below.

Night Prayers @ Center DC

We’ll be hosting taraweeh prayers every Monday - Thursday night in our space, inshaAllah.

Taraweeh prayers are open to all M-Th, inshaAllah, and will run for approximately 1 hour in 8 units of prayer, with a short talk at the 1/2 way point. For those hoping to follow along, the imam will announce which verse he is on before beginning the next prayer cycle.

There is no need to sign up for night prayers.

We’ll begin at 9:00pm with Isha prayer and continue on, inshaAllah.

Iftars @ Center DC

Iftar will be provided 2x a week on Tuesday & Thursday nights, inshaAllah.

  • Thursdays will also feature iftar, followed by Dua Kumayl led by our friends from the Muslim Community for Thaqalayn.

We’ll be asking people to RSVP ahead of time for Iftar to reserve a space, as our space can only accommodate 60 people per night for food! If you go to register and find that it is full, come at your own risk (you may also want to bring your own meal!). We will welcome people in as long as there is physical space to do so.

*Note: Iftar sign ups open on Friday night the week before @ 6:00am.

Fajr Squad

Every morning during the month of Ramadān, Center DC will be hosting a group listening + reflection session on one (1) Juz - one 1/30th - of the Quran. Tune in to read/listen along with us and share in a communal reflection based on what stood out to you. Fajr Squad will take place 15 min. after Fajr comes in (according to North American ISNA times for Washington, D.C.). Join the group below for daily reminders, updated times, resource sharing, group messages and easy access to the link to join!

Special Events to Register For!

Here are a few SPECIAL events we’re connected with that you should know about……

*Note: Iftar sign ups open on Friday night the week before @ 6:00am.

We all know how overwhelming it can be to locate all the options for taraweeh and iftar that exist in the DC metro area. We’re here to help! Join this resource group below to access a calendar of events + resource links to help you make your own plans!

2. GET INVOLVED!

There are multiple ways to support Center DC’s Ramadān initiatives this year… just take a look at your options below!

a. Fund Iftar + Taraweeh

Did you know it takes costs us a little under $11k to do Ramadan at Center DC? This fund helps us cover the $10,700 we need to 1.) pay the Imam for taraweeh ($3,200), 2.) to cover tea making supplies for the month ($450-500) and 3.) to feed 700 fasting people at 10 Center DC iftars ($7000) inshaAllah!

It takes community support to fund the dream. Please give generously - all donations to this particular fund go directly towards our Ramadān fund. 100% of what’s raised goes to feeding people x eid vendors x paying the imam who leads taraweeh prayer.

b. Become an Iftar League Host

This is one of our longest running creative solutions to make sure that folks in the DMV don’t break fast alone. Hosts commit to hosting one (1) iftar weekly - either at a masjid meet-up, a restaurant/public space, or their home! It’s a big ask…with even bigger rewards, inshaAllah. This year, we are looking for 14 hosts inshaAllah! Could it be you?

c. Join the Ramadān Crew

It takes teamwork to make the dream work, mashaAllah. Our Ramadān offerings require lots of helpful hands to set-up the space, welcome people at the door, help with food, serve tea, and clean-up afterwards. Now is your time to jump in there and join our Ramadān Crew making it all happen. We’re looking for ~20 folks to help serve at our space. Is that you?
