What We Value
Islamic Tradition
We are grounded in the Qur’an and Sunnah (Prophetic tradition), striving to live with God-consciousness in a way that is authentic, balanced, and welcoming across the diversity of the Muslim community (ummah). Our faith guides our decisions, shapes our culture, and calls us to please God in all that we do. We adhere to traditional Sunni beliefs and practices, while intentionally seeking to welcome and include our Shia sisters and brothers by praying at an inclusive time and designing our space, schedule, and offerings with them in mind.
Collective Leadership
We are lay-led, collaborative, and people-powered—building with our community, not just for it. Through shared ownership, accountability, and transparency, everyone has a role in shaping our direction and achieving our mission.
Local Focus
We are rooted in D.C., working to make our city better through intentional relationships and activities that positively impact our community members and beyond. By creating a rich local model of what a faith-based community can be, we hope to inspire others to do the same for their respective communities.
Diverse Spiritual Seekers
We reflect the tremendous diversity of the global Muslim community. We affirm traditional beliefs and practices in an inviting way, while creating a space that is welcoming for anyone who identifies as a Muslim — whether or not their particular beliefs or practices fit perfectly into that mold.
Warm Welcomes
We practice authentic hospitality where everyone can feel welcome, respected, and at home. By engineering intentional social interactions and facilitating intimate gatherings, we honor our inherent human dignity and create spaces of warmth, kindness, and compassion.
Transformational Growth
We believe in continuous growth—individual and collective—through learning, questioning, repairing, and supporting one another. In the belief that nothing is perfect except God, our activities encourage courage, forgiveness, and holistic personal growth as we strive together toward God. For that reason, we prioritize intentionally intimate/small quality connections over huge lecture hall sea-full of people.
Infused Joy
We infuse our work with joy (just like we infuse our signature mint tea 🍃). From small moments of laughter to big celebrations, we cultivate a culture that values play, gratitude, and the beauty of gathering.
Prophetic Service + Justice
We follow Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)’s call to stand for justice, serve others, and act with mercy. We design our programs to be financially accessible and particularly to cater to historically marginalized segments of our community (like women and new Muslims). We are committed to equity, anti-oppression, and uplifting the underserved through service and social action.
